What Does the Procedure Look Like?

Depending on the applicant’s place of residence, the application should be submitted:
- through the competent Voivode, if the applicant resides in Poland;
- through the competent Consul of the Republic of Poland, if the applicant resides outside Poland.
The application is then forwarded to the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland for examination. During the proceedings, opinions may be obtained from other public authorities; however, the final decision rests solely with the President.

Polish law does not specify a statutory deadline for the President to examine an application. In practice, the waiting period may range from several months to several years. The duration depends on the complexity of the case, the completeness of the submitted documentation, and whether additional consultations with public authorities are required.
